Day 30: The path of life – part 1

Proverbs tells us God’s way of living in a fallen world. They tell us the path of life. Moses commanded the Israelites “Choose life (Deut. 30:19).”

The LORD is the hope of the blameless (Prov. 10:29). Evil has a way of begetting evil so that that an evil person searches for more ways to do evil (Prov.11:27). Let that be a warning to us!

The proverbs warn us about the company that we keep. We tend to become like those that we spend time with, so choose your friends and what you watch carefully.

Wisdom can be acquired through the wise. But spending time with fools will lead to harm (Prov. 13:20). Beware of being wise in our own eyes (Prov. 14:12). So too, beware of the person who finds enjoyment in his folly (Prov. 15:21). You will not find life there.

The way of the Lord is a stronghold to the blameless, but destruction to evildoers.

– Prov. 10:29

Whoever diligently seeks good seeks favour, but evil comes to him who searches for it.

– Prov. 11:27

In the path of righteousness is life, and in its pathway there is no death.

– Prov. 12:28

Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.

– Prov. 13:20

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death.

– Prov. 14:12

The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.

– Prov. 14:14

In a multitude of people is the glory of a king, but without people a prince is ruined.

– Prov. 14:28

Folly is a joy to him who lacks sense, but a man of understanding walks straight ahead.

– Prov. 15:21

The path of life leads upward for the prudent, that he may turn away from Sheol beneath.

– Prov. 15:24

Lord God, You are holy and just. Your kingdom is forever. You have shown us the way of life and in Your presence there is fullness of joy. In every situation, let us seek what is obedient to You.

These proverbs teach us that we will reap the fruit of our ways. The desire of our hearts is to walk in Your ways, to abide in Christ Jesus the True Vine and to bear fruit that is sweet to You.

Help us walk the narrow way of the gospel.

In Jesus’ Name we pray,

Amen.
