QUESTIONS FOR SERMON SELF-ANALYSIS

  1.  Is my introduction and my conclusion clear and focused on the main point of the sermon?

2)   Have I summarised my sermon in one sentence, stressing the main point?

3)   Have I worked prayerfully and carefully to understand the passage?

4)   Have I kept Christ in His place at the centre-point of the triune Lord’s great plan?

5)   Have I practised the sermon a number of times to ensure eye contact and that I am not bound to my notes?

6)   Have I summarised my sermon to avoid reading every word?

7)   Have I left spaces to allow God to guide me in response to my hearers?

8)   Have i made it clear what I asking my hearers to know, believe and do?

9)   Are there illustrations from my own experiences that I could appropriately mention, being careful to maintain anonymity if necessary?

10)  Have I addressed the felt needs of the congregation as well as the needs of which the congregation may be unaware?

11)  Have I motivated people to honour God?

12)  Have I repented of any known sin in my life?

13)  Am I bearing grudges against anyone?

14)  Have I prayed sufficiently for myself and my hearers?

15)  Have I outlined the Gospel and challenged people to respond in repentance and faith?

16)  Have I focused on my text and not given too many references from other parts pf the Bible?
