Micah 7:7-8 But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.
The prophet Micah portrays in this chapter the depth of depravity to which our sinful, God-denying, God-defying world can descend in terms of misery, evil behaviour, infidelity, injustice, broken relationships, and the like.
As I see where our present pervasive culture is heading I can identify with how the prophet was feeling personally as he proclaimed God’s message to the nation. And I am greatly challenged and encouraged by his resolve in the midst of the seemingly hopeless threat that surrounded him. I pray that his faith and courage will inspire me to say with him:
“But as for me, I watch in hope for the LORD, I wait for God my Saviour; my God will hear me. Do not gloat over me, my enemy! Though I have fallen, I will rise. Though I sit in darkness, the LORD will be my light.”
Thank you, Micah – and I know something you could only see as a future promise: “I will trust my Saviour, Jesus, when my darkest doubts befall; trust him when to simply trust him seems the hardest thing of all. I will trust my Saviour, Jesus, trust him when my strength is small, for I know the shield of Jesus is the safest place of all. I will trust my Saviour, Jesus, he has said his way is best, and I know the path he’s chosen leads to everlasting rest. Jesus, only Jesus, help me trust you more and more; Jesus, only Jesus, may my heart be ever yours” (CityAlight).
