Ben Davis is a gifted illustrator who can also handle the use of rhyme. He has recently taken to writing children’s stories, with a Bluey-like protagonist named Brax. In this tale, Brax tries to put a bike together without reading the instructions – a folly repeated in other contexts by many a builder and cook. The lesson is, of course, the Christian one that we need instructions from our Maker. We have these in the Bible, but it needs to be read, studied and obeyed.
As a bonus, there is an appendix where in four easy steps Ben explains how an amateur artist can draw Brax. Many Christian books for children miss the mark, but the Brax series looks to be both suitable and faithful, and so is warmly commended.
