Revelation 19:9-10   Then the angel said to me, “Write this: Blessed are those who are invited to the wedding supper of the Lamb!”  And he added, “These are the true words of God.”  At this I fell at his feet to worship him.  But he said to me, “Don’t do that! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus.  Worship God!  For it is the Spirit of prophecy who bears testimony to Jesus.”

What wonderful truths we learn from what the Apostle John records here about the vision given to him of our Almighty Sovereign God’s perspective on the actual state of things in our rebellious, God-denying, sin-racked world!

Firstly, there are ‘angels’ (heavenly ‘messengers’) who join with us in serving God and carrying out his purposes in his world, so that we need not feel alone or helpless against the often seemingly overwhelming odds of the militant opposition out there.

Secondly, when we turn to Jesus in repentance-and-faith, and put our trust in him as our Saviour and Lord, we join the ranks of all those whose names are on the invitation list to the triumphant Wedding Supper of the Lamb when he returns in all his conquering power and glory, and we benefit from the abundant blessing that such an invitation guarantees (cf Matthew 22:1-14).

Thirdly, in the Scriptures we have the true words of God.  We don’t need to be confused or frightened by the multitude of false worldviews and lies that are being propagated around us and constantly and subtly enforced upon us through the various media.  “Let God be true, and every man a liar”  (Romans 3:4).

Fourthly, the ‘Spirit of prophecy’ (and ‘prophecy’ refers to forth-telling rather than foretelling) is the one who is behind the writing (and preserving) of our Inspired, Inerrant Scriptures, and they all (from Genesis to Revelation) ’bear testimony to Jesus’.  It is interesting that when Jewish people come to recognise Jesus as their Promised Messiah, and  put their faith in him as Saviour, their Sacred Scriptures (our Old Testament) take on a whole new significance – the light Jesus shines on them at  last makes them comprehensible and meaningful, especially concerning all the promises about God’s everlasting Covenant with them and about the eternalL rule of the Descendant of David over all the earth!
