A few thoughts on evangelism to Muslims

As a Muslim now saved by Christ, I offer just a few hints on how to reach Muslims with the gospel of Christ crucified and risen.

  1. Share the gospel

Muslims are people too, so when sharing we must just go out and share the truth in love. A good place to start is by asking questions about their beliefs. This can then open up the conversation to sharing the truth of Christ.

  • Share stories from the Old Testament and the Gospels

Since the Qur’an mentions some of the Prophets, but gives few details, it is helpful to share stories from the Old Testament and from the Gospels. Even better, open the Bible with Muslims, so they can learn the true accounts of the Prophets. We learn more from what we see for ourselves!

  • Be prepared with a defence

Since we are called to have a defence for the hope in us (1 Peter 3:15), it is important to be prepared for the kind of objections that Muslims may raise. The most common are that ā€œJesus is not the son of Godā€ and that ā€œChristians believe in three Gods.ā€ It is helpful to know how you would respond to these kinds of statements in a loving but truthful way. For example, one might ask the Muslim how he explains the prophecy of Isaiah 9:6, or get him to work through how Jesus deals with Psalm 110:1 in Matthew 22:41-46.

  • Be hospitable

Many Muslims come from very hospitable cultures and love to connect through drinking tea and eating together. A very tangible way to show the love of Christ and have the opportunity for lengthy discussions is to be hospitable to the Muslims around you. Take them out for a cup of tea or coffee, and ask what they think about Christianity.
