PRAYER FOR MOIRA DEEMING

At a Let Women Speak rally in Melbourne on 18 March 2023 one of the speakers was Mrs Moira Deeming. Having begun as a Liberal Member of Parliament, she is now an independent Liberal MP. What happened? Many readers will know the story: some Neo-Nazis turned up in the vicinity, for a different rally, and this provided a wonderful opportunity for the media at large and obsequious politicians to express their moral outrage at Mrs Deeming. The crime was that of associating with Nazis.

A spineless Liberal Party proceeded to suspend Moira for nine months after its leader, John Pesutto, had first threatened to expel her. Further down the track, Pesutto felt obliged to backtrack and issue a public apology to two of the other speakers, Angie Jones and Kelli-Jay Keen. But not to Moira.

            The result has been a million-dollar court case. It has been a trying time for the Deeming, parallel to that of the Psalmist: ‘Take away from me scorn and contempt, for I have kept your testimonies’ (Ps.119:22). God is working His purposes out, and His people are called upon to trust and to pray.
