I have often heard Christians wrestle with the question of whether one can in good conscience practice yoga. Some believers think that it is just a form of relaxation and gentle physical exercise. But in this interview, Ruth Burgess, herself a former ‘Swami’ and instructor in Yoga persuasively argues that one definitely cannot.

Ruth lived in an Ashram for over twenty years and in her own words was “all in”. But then, in the fallout involving the Royal Commission into Institutional Abuse, her whole world—and way of life—came crashing down. She was made to question everything she had been taught through Eastern mysticism and had come to believe.

Ruth’s is a fascinating story in its own right. She speaks with graciousness, conviction and spiritual insight. It’s almost impossible not to be deeply moved by what she says.
