There are fewer sadder events in life than a stillbirth. This is a book designed to convey to children that God is always good in every situation (Psalm 100:5). Jonathan and Jacqueline Gibson lost a daughter, Leila, at 39 weeks. Their son, Ben, asked about the moon: why at times it looks like a banana, and at other times like only half of it was present. Dr Gibson – a professor in Old Testament, a pastor, a husband and a father – would point out that the moon is always round. It is just that sometimes we cannot see all of it.
What a wonderful way to illustrate God’s goodness to His people even in tragedy and adversity! I could think of no better book to help young children on this difficult topic. And the illustrations by Joe Hox, unlike many illustrations in children’s books, are most apt.
