Isaiah 40:22. It is he that sits upon the circle of the earth, and the inhabitants thereof are as grasshoppers; that stretches out the heavens as a curtain, and spreads them out as a tent to dwell in.
Isaiah 40:26 Look up and see! Who created these? He brings out the stars by number; he calls all of them by name. Because of his great power and strength, not one of them is missing.
Is 40: 28 Do you not know? Have you not heard? The LORD is the everlasting God, the Creator of the whole earth. He never becomes faint or weary; there is no limit to his understanding.
God is infinite. To say that He is infinite is to say that he is without limits. The only limits to God are those that are demanded by His perfection – He cannot sin, He cannot lie.
But in all other respects, God cannot be bound.
For instance, in Isaiah 40 we see that God has no limit to His power and His strength. This is evident by the fact that He created all the stars of heaven. It is also evident in verse 28 in that He never becomes faint or weary. Any one of us can be pushed to work for a period of time. We can walk or run or lift something. But all of us, some sooner than others, will reach the limit of our strength and we will have to stop. God is not like that. His power is infinite.
We also see that God is not limited in His knowledge. He counts the stars and never loses count. He even knows what the numbers are after one trillion. I struggle to remember the names of all my children – God has given names to every star. Apparently, mankind has estimated that there are about 200 billion trillion stars. God knows them all by name and never gets their names wrong. But we also know from scripture that God knows all the hairs on your head. He knows how hungry the cockatoos are tonight. His knowledge is infinite.
Just considering these two attributes of God – His power and His knowledge – in their limitlessness should bring us great comfort because God knows all of your struggles and trials and temptations both physically and spiritually and He is powerful to provide you with all that you need right now both physically and spiritually.
